Testo inglese

!This is a digitally generated rendition of the original text published in 1885 by Sir Richard Francis Burton as:

"A Plain and Literal Translation of the Arabian Nights' Entertainments, Now Entitulated The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night, With Introductory Explanatory Notes on the Manners and Customs of Moslem Men, and a Terminal Essay upon the History of the Nights" in 10 volumes and of the subsequent:

"Supplemental Nights"

volumes 1 to 6 completed in 1888.

My source material was a somewhat dilapidated copy of work in the edition issued by the Burton club in 1903. Where my copies were unreliable because of their deterioration, I consulted a copies from a national library of Richard Burton's own publication, which I found to be typographically identical with mine. This is a natural conseguence of the fact that both were printed from the same masters.
On account of the severe obscenity laws applicable at the time of issue, only a very limited number of copies have ever been printed.
As these laws where liberalised in the 1950s and 60s, selections from these tales where published. The more I read the greater was my appreciation of the many qualities displayed!
